Accident and pregnancy update

Yesterday afternoon I was shopping with my mom and my sister when I received a phone call from Stephen's phone. Thinking (of course) that it was him I answered. Stephen's company had a company party at a local lake and there were boats and such there. Stephen had been excited to get to go into the lake and have a fun time. Well, on the phone was someone from work telling me that there had been a boating accident, that Stephen had been thrown off a tube and landed on his head. He had lost consciousness and they think he had a seizure in the water. She assured me that he was walking and that he was with paramedics and that she'd call back when they got to the hospital. (She said more stuff... but I sort of went into shock).

I am extremely grateful that I was with my mom and sister, since I just lost it. The woman on the phone had given us general directions to the hospital they were going to, and so we set off. My mom called Stephen's parents to tell them and they started to head down as well. The entire drive down I was trying to stay calm. As much as I've wanted to go into labor for the past two weeks, today was not a good time to start. I really couldn't focus on anything but breathing.

It was scary walking into the emergency room. I haven't been in one since I broke my arm when I was 10. When I got there Stephen was in x-ray. They did an x-ray of Stephen's neck and chest, as well as a CAT Scan of his head. As soon as he was in a room they let me go in. It was the scariest thing I had ever seen walking in and seeing Stephen on a hospital bed in a hospital gown. The doctor came in and told us that everything was okay. Stephen had a concussion but would okay. Stephen complained about his ear and she found that he had injured it slightly (there was blood inside, but the ear drum wasn't ruptured).

What exactly happened hasn't really been determined. There was another guy on the tube with Stephen (he's the one that flipped Stephen over on his back in the water). But some things are hazy to him as it happened so fast. So we don't know if they hit heads or if Stephen got most of the injury from slamming into the water. What Stephen did say (when I first walked into the room) was that he had told the boat driver to slow down... multiple times. The lake was choppy and he was flinging them around pretty roughly. Stephen's first memory afterwards was "coming to" in the ambulance and being confused why he was in there, even though he walked to it on his own. When the paramedics asked him where it hurt and if he was uncomfortable he told them the neck brace was stretching his neck.

Right now he seems pretty fine. Medicine is helping the headache, his shoulders are sore and his ear is bugging him, but mentally he's all there. It's weird to see him so subdued. I feel extremely blessed that the Lord was looking over him today and protected him from any more serious damage.

On the pregnancy front:
I am still pregnant. Tuesday I reached 41 weeks and went in for an ultrasound to make sure the baby was healthy. It was amazing to see how much had changed since the 20 week ultrasound. We could see her full hand complete with fingernails. We also saw her chin and nose. Her hand was over her eyes but they peaked out once. Everything was perfect according to the ultrasound. Although the calculated weight was 9 lbs 2 oz. I'm hoping she'll be more around 8 lbs. 6 oz.

Today I was suppose to see the midwife. Because of events said above, I canceled the appointment. That was actually one of the things Stephen mentioned when I went into the room was if we'd be able to make it to the appointment. (It was 4:25 when I got into the room... the appointment was at 4:30 about 45 minutes away). I was going to get my membranes stripped today to see if that would help induce labor and get the baby here before my sister leaves Saturday. Oh well. First Stephen's health, and then having this baby. I'll need him in labor & delivery. On the way home from the hospital I rescheduled for Monday afternoon. Maybe I won't need the appointment... or maybe my midwife can just break my water (or maybe I'll take caster oil).
