Live and Learn

Today I learned that we need a spare key somewhere outside of the house.

I needed to go out to the garage to look for something, and Samantha wouldn't put on her coat. So I left her inside and went outside to look in a box. When I arrived at the door to come back inside I found that Samantha had somehow managed to turn the lock so that I was now locked out of the house. I checked the front, but since we never use that door, the deadbolt was still locked. I was without keys (or credit cards to break in), and all of our windows seem to lock very well. Samantha was inside, and I was outside (and it was cold today). I quickly texted Stephen "Sammi locked me out of the house" He called me telling me that he was on his way home. During the 15 minutes that it took for Stephen to get home, Samantha stood by the door moving the door knob (but not the lock), looking out the window of the door, and crying at me since I wouldn't let her out. She even held up her shoes to tell me she wanted those ones on, and when I didn't put them on she started crying again. It was especially hard when she stood on her tip toes with her little hands reaching for mine against the window. I was scared she'd go get into something or fall down the stairs right behind her. So I kept trying to make her stay right there, where I could see her. Crying or not, I knew where she was and I knew she was safe. I did eventually manage to keep her interest with a game of peek-a-boo and by the time Stephen got home she was in better spirits, quickly forgetting the whole ordeal. All is well that ends well. And I think Samantha will have a lesson in UNlocking the door.

Oh geez. Not a fun thing. Especially when it was as cold out as it was yesterday! I am glad Stephen was able to get home quickly!

Oh that is painful! I'm sorry. When Hannah was 2 I had stopped by Gingers house just to drop something off. I left the car running and left Hannah in her carseat because it was snowing and Gingers door was like 10 feet from my car. Hannah managed to reach over and lock the doors. I couldn't get her to figure out how to open the doors so Uncle Dave stood in the snow by the car while a ran home and got a spare key. Not one of my best moments. - Staci

Can't tell you how many times I done something similar. I hope you had a coat. Lucky Stephen works so close.

oh boy, I can feel that one just like it happened yesterday, but with me it was Andrew in the running car, (18 mo.) crying, and chewing on his glasses--and the police got him out. I cried too. So sorry you had to go through that, but glad she bounced back quickly.
