Pre-school anyway. It was actually a very hard decision for me to send Samantha to preschool. Partly because it’ll mean paying for two years of preschool (since Samantha missed the September 1st cut-off date and thus does not enter Kindergarten until Fall 2013), and partly because I know I *could* do it. But it boils down to: Samantha needed some interaction with other kids (learn to share, not falling into tears when something doesn’t go your way, etc.) and I wasn’t doing those school things and many days this summer she spent watching TV (more accurately: watching Netflix on the iPod Touch). My mom told me a very wise thing (or maybe just obvious), she said that if you decide to take on your children’s schooling that is all you will be doing. And as much as I love my children, I feel I have lost myself in my mommyhood and feel the need to find a bit of it in order to be a better mom for them. So to preschool Sammi will go.
She was super ecstatic to go, and was ready an hour before. I snapped some pictures and it’s funny to look at your kid and feel like they changed so much since the last time you took their picture… and to see your siblings in the pictures. The first: I see me, the second: my sister Caitlyn, the third: my brother Destin, the fourth: Stephen and yet they are all very much Samantha.
Clara took a little drive before we headed off. (The preschool is just down the street 1/2 a block)
Samantha made sure I saw the purple Dahlia that bloomed recently
“Really mom… enough with the pictures”
But we made it to the middle school (the preschool is one of it’s wings)
And to her classroom.
Here she is next to her locker, and then in line ready to go outside. (they have recess first). I did take note that at least some of the boys seemed to be her height. The girls… well they don’t have much of a chance.
When I picked her up she didn’t tell me much. But when asked if she had fun she gave a curt “yes”. At evening prayers though, she summarized her day (as usual), “Bless that I had a GREAT time at preschool. Bless that I didn’t go on the school bus ‘cause I walked with mommy and Clara. And bless that I went down the slide, and painted…..” Her actual first day was Tuesday. Today was her second. When I told her last night that she had preschool in the morning her reply was just hilarious, “Again!?” I guess routine is something new for us…
