Valentine’s Day

I suppose I need to make the obligatory Valentine’s Day post.  I could blame our travels on our lack of any type of celebration… but that’s just an excuse.  We’ve never really celebrated Valentine’s Day.  Our first Valentine’s Day together was spent in the engineering lab at BYU.  I had a project due the next day (like due at 8am).  Stephen came in to do his own homework and left me a BYU Teddy Bear by my bookbag.  So I suppose we’ve done little things, but not the regular dinner, flowers, chocolates or whatever.  Maybe I’ll get more “into” holidays with kids… maybe.

One thing that does make Valentine’s Day feel like a holiday (which it’s not) is sugar cookies.  Of course sugar cookies make any non-holiday feel holiday-y.  I was saved the task of doing this the day we returned from traveling by my mom who also feels the same way about sugar cookies.  She has a tradition of sending her kids Valentine’s Day sugar cookies, and since we were there Samantha helped make them, roll them out, cut them, and decorate them.  We did oodles of cookies too.  Some got put in a box and sent Priority Mail to my siblings out in Utah, and then the rest came with me back to Minnesota.

I did get some chocolates for Valentine’s Day this year.  The night before I came home, my family friend that has a truffle making business (she only makes them at Christmas and Valentine’s Day) texted my mom asking if I wanted some.  It had kind of slipped my mind, or I just thought it didn’t matter but I went over to her house and got to fill up a box of all my favorite truffles.  mmmm.  So I filled a box for me (saying it was “from Stephen”) and I filled another bag with her other chocolate trinkets she makes since I know Stephen doesn’t like the truffles as much as I do and would appreciate the other variety. So hooray for chocolates!

Over all, the day has been a recovery/ jump back into life day.  Clara woke up SUPER early (5:30) and I spent much of the morning trying to make her go back to sleep, she’s a stubborn girl.  We had grocery shopping to get done (no food in the house!), Samantha had swim lessons and Stephen had class.   So overall I knew it’d be a long day.  And it was (is), but Stephen called me at 11am saying that he’d be coming home for lunch and was going to bring me some Eddington’s soup!  He just wanted to double check my favorite (Chicken Tortilla) and make sure I wasn’t going to be leaving the house shortly. So we got to spend one meal together today. :)

So Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
