We won the house... now for the inspection

Hello all,

Charisse and I won the bidding war (do you ever really win a bidding war?) for the house of our dreams...well, a least a good house to dream in. We're very excited and anxious to close so we can start having fun and making mortgage payments. We ended up not paying cash for the house because we heard you can write off all of the interest payed during the year.

Brief description: The home is a 1959 Rambler on a lightly forested .4 acre lot with only mild water damage in the basement. This home is a foreclosure and is sold "as-is" with all appliances included (even the laundry line in the back yard, and pot-belly stove in the spacious detached two-car garage). Simply pole-vault over the rear fence and enjoy the 130 yard walk to church (in the Plymouth ward). This home is in a great location just around the corner from Birchview Elementary school (Wayzata feeder), and just across the street from Wayzata central middle school (old Wayzata High School).

Charisse and I are pumped and ready to have a bit of earth that we can call our own. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers (future prayers included)!

Congrats on the house! we love ours although there are lots more expenses than before. Oh well, guess it comes with the territory.

Oh yeah, and do you actually have enough cash to pay for your house? If I were you, I'd do it. You can deduct interest but that doesn't mean that you get the money back. It just means you would itemize instead of go with the standard dedution which is better although you will still have lost money. I wouldn't take my word for it but I would look into it more. Good luck!
