Our weekend started with a bang Friday night. Mark, Thomas and Stephen's dad came over and started ripping off the garage roof. They started at 7:20pm and finished about 9pm, and then clean-up. I fed them cookies around 10 and they headed home.
Saturday was an early morning and a long day. We had help from Mark, Thomas, Stephen's dad, Taylor, McKay, Eliza and Lucy. Eliza and Lucy were on Sammi duty and did a great job of keeping her entertained so that I could be useful without a 1 year old hanging on me. I even wielded the nail gun but preferred laying out the shingles for the nailer. So I spent the entire afternoon squatting to lay-up the shingles. We finished around 8pm. We got some help from Tamara during clean up who had brought Preston over to "help". (He could be mostly helpful, he just didn't understand that he couldn't slide around on the roof).
Sunday, man I was sore. Stephen too. I had to brace myself each time i went to sit down somewhere. But we had a slow morning and then headed out to Buffalo for Taylor missionary farewell. I'd like to tell you his talk was awesome, but Sammi was having none of the "sitting still" during sacrament meeting so spent a good portion of his talk out in the hall. And then after we came back in she managed to bang her head on the pew right in the middle of Taylor's testimony. Sorry Shauna, I know it broke up a very tender moment for you. After church we had a nice dinner get-together at the Elwoods with the entire family. I made brownies and they were yummy. (The regular food was yummy too).
Since we got the roof done on Saturday we got to play all day Monday! We started the day off with a bike ride with the Smiths and Smiths (Mark and Tamara's family and Stephen's parents) at Baker Park. There's a 6.2 mile bike trail loop that we did. My legs were still a little sore, but I think the bike ride helped stretch them out a bit. Then we played at the park and came home and crashed. Saturday evening we had a BBQ with a couple other young couples from church (previous ward too) which was a lot of fun.
Our weekend extended into Tuesday because Stephen had taken the day off for the roof, thinking we'd be doing it Monday/Tuesday. So it was a whole other day to play! One of Stephen's favorite things to do is look at cars. And coincidentally, I love it too. We had to get the CR-V in for regular maintenance so we did that and hung out in the showroom. Samantha's favorite was the S2000 (The sporty bright yellow convertible in the showroom). She also liked whenever she was in the drivers seat and made us do up the seat belt. We took a trip while we were waiting to the Mazda dealership as well. Stephen's been eyeing the Mazda3 for the past 2 years now. And while we can't buy one now, they just came out with the new generation and he hasn't driven one yet. So he took a manual out for a spin, and loved it. The salesman complemented his driving (which I'm sure means he didn't shift until absolutely necessary), and gave Sammi a balloon. She played with it the entire time Stephen was gone. The salesman gave it an extra long string so that it floated up to the top of the showroom (around 3 stories tall). She would just squeal and squeal and then pull it back down and then let go of it again. It was quite cute. After the car got done we went to IKEA to get some things for Samantha. She's mostly past sippy cups (unless we're travelling) and so I got a package of 6 small cups for $1.99. I also picked up a few plastic chairs that she'll be able to use with her table once we have it finished. We also found a train set. It makes a figure 8, has 4 little trains and it cost $14.99. Can we say score? because the Thomas the Engine train sets cost like $50 for the same thing. That is a real fun store to wander around in, btw. We were only there for an hour and Samantha completely passed out on my shoulder (which she never does).
I will post pictures of the roof once we fix the other computer. I took all the pictures (unknowingly) in RAW and I have to convert them to JPEG before I can post them and we have photoshop on the broken computer and this computer doesn't have the RAM/processor to run it.

VICTORY!!! On many counts! Way to Go Smiths! (I love the long baloon string image the best... and don't worry about Sammi interrupting a moment -- I'm all about family and children -- and she fit in fine.)
