Saturday (around midnight) my sister Maraina got into town from Utah, and on Monday we all headed down to Virginia Beach. Maraina’s friend, Camille, also came down with us. She’s practically a sister to me, and it would be the only time for her and Raina to hang out while Raina was in town. The 4 1/2 –5 hour drive down turned into more like 6 or 7 as Clara refused to sleep in her carseat and pretty much cried the entire drive down; that is until I squeezed in the back between the two carseats and made faces at her so she had someone to look at (but still didn’t sleep). We also had some car troubles as one of the times we pulled over for me to try and calm Clara down my mom tore the front bumper off her car. (A short story shorter: abandoned parking lot, former light poll re-bar sticking 6-8 inches out of the ground unmarked, mom didn’t see it (neither did anyone else), hit it, backed out and oops?.) But we did eventually make it there!
It was HOT all week. But we picked the right side of the week to go, because it was in the 100s when we left and only in the 90s when we were there. :)
Clara spent her time outside sleeping, mostly. She was awake sometimes. But we never stayed out more than a few hours and then I took her in to take a nap in the hotel.
Samantha had a fun time playing in the sand with “Cami” They buried each other, dug big holes, etc… etc. A little girl (Zoey) that was sitting behind us came up to play with Samantha. Samantha “played” with her by running around our area. When asked what she was doing Samantha responded “I playing with my friend” and then continued to run away. Zoey kept asking Samantha “Sammi, what are you up to?”
On the first day, Samantha was fearless of the water and even wanted me to take her out to go swimming.
Clara did make it off the blanket a couple of times, to feel that ocean breeze.
On the second day (Wednesday), Dalton, Maraina and Camille were watching the World Cup game. US was playing someone… can’t remember who. I don’t watch soccer and I wanted to get outside. So I finally made it outside around 11am (slow movers). I played with Samantha in the sand for a little while and made her into a mermaid (with a very long tail, apparently). After she climbed out she wanted to make Ariel… I did my best. But I’m no artist.
After the US won and was moving on to the next round, the teenagers (okay, Camille’s 20) came out. For some reason Samantha was scared of the water. So for a while as the waves crashed near her she would say “It’s just water” and then her and Camille would either hold out their hands telling the water not to come or throw sand at the water as it came and said “Go away water!”
Of course, there was reading done. Not by me. It’s pretty impossible to sit back and read a book with a nursing 3 month old and a highly active 2 year old that depends on you for entertainment. Dalton, however, got through 2 books.
Maraina was just excited she got to meet and play with Clara before her 2 other siblings that live in Utah.
