Thatch and a lot of it

Friday evening, Stephen and I used this machine

to make our yard look like this

It’s called a power rake.  We “dethatched” our yard (thatch being the dead stuff at the root of grass).  We happened to have a lot of thatch and are hoping that this will allow our grass to grown in healthier.  I’m also kind of hoping that it ripped up a lot of our creeping charlie that has been covering our lawn.

The girls found their own way of entertaining themselves.  A door as a ramp to a trailer makes an excellent slide… and trampoline.

And we might not have been paying the best of attention to them.

After the girls were in bed, Stephen and I raked up all the thatch into little piles.  It looked like our yard had been overrun with prairie dogs.  Saturday afternoon we took a few loads to the green waste facility.
