I hope they call me on a mission…

Stephen’s parents had always been planning on going on a mission as soon as his dad retired. However, retirement came a bit earlier than expected and then he was called as the Stake Patriarch and asked to give 5 years. After those 5 years we moved out to Minnesota and moved into their home to housesit for them. They did all the prep work and turned their papers in, 6 or 8 weeks later they got a call from Salt Lake City (mission calls come in the mail) that they were being called to serve in the presidency of the St. Paul, Minnesota temple for 3 years! But all things worked out this time around. Stephen’s sister, Heather, and her family moved out to Minnesota in December and are now fulfilling the “house-sitting” role. And now, Stephen’s folks are serving the people of the Jamaica Kingston mission. They are very excited, but a little worried about mosquitos and humidity. But they can just think of it as the 3 weeks of Minnesota summer being year-round. :)
Here’s their missionary picture that Stephen took after they were set apart.

I actually saw them again while I was in Utah at Summer’s house. They reported to the MTC on June 13th, got to see Elder McKay Elwood (my nephew) at the MTC, and then my sister’s husband of 6 weeks took them to the airport on the morning of June 18th to fly to Jamaica. We’ve had a handful of short emails, and one longer, that tell us that they are doing well and are excited for this adventure together.
