After I got back from my lunch we headed out to a local Orchard. We decided to try different orchard this year. It has a huge farm full of baby animals that they let you feed, hold and play with. Since Clara absolutely loves animals I thought it might be fun to try.
When we first got there we learned that there had been a calf born yesterday, and they were letting the kids in to pet it (the mom was not in the cage with it). They actually held off bringing the mom back in for a few minutes since they saw us walk in. Samantha declared “I don’t like cows” and Clara was a bit hesitant as well, but eventually pet it.
The girls actually finally got excited after one of the owners handed us a bag of oats and said they could feed the goats. The free roaming goats. They were so pleased, and fed them until our little bag was all gone.
On the way to find the baby chicks (Btw, every time Clara saw a chicken she would say “quack quack” hilarious and cute, despite it being wrong)… we found a box of corn. Think giant sand box but with corn instead of sand. The girls loved it! It was a bit hard to move around, but Clara always had her hands full (and I kept her mouth empty!) and Samantha just rolled and jumped and danced all over. There were lots of other kids wanting in so we pulled them out to move on.
We found the chicks not too far away. There were few other girls in the hut that tried to help Samantha hold one, but she didn’t even want to pet it. Of course Clara had no interest in just petting it grabbed it out of the girl’s hands. The first picture is her holding the chick upside down… Stephen was making sure she didn’t squeeze too hard.
After some washing we wandered around some more. Became the three little pigs (or two of them), played in old tractor wheels, played with some more baby goats,
and lastly we played again in the cornbox. Stephen and I joined the girls since it was near closing and no one was there. We took turns being buried in the corn. (picture on Stephen’s phone… so I’ll have to update with it). It was a fun time together. And best of all… it was entirely free. Maybe next year we’ll go earlier during apple picking season and pick some apples and go on a wagon ride.
