Metro100

Stephen and I participated in a 100 mile bike ride last weekend (July 10-11). It was about 50 miles each day, Friday we were mostly in St. Paul and Saturday we were mostly in Minneapolis. To put it shortly, it was intense. I got to have a crash course in unclipping. I managed most of the time but I had two pretty good wipeouts. One gave me a gash on my knee the other I ended up with the front gear in my calf. The sad thing is I had one foot out (I have clipless shoes, so the shoes ARE the pedals) and for whatever reason the bike tipped the wrong way. And yes, I was the only one to fall of 30 riders.

Little did I know that right after this was going to be a monster of a hill… and I was already dead.

Near the end of the 2nd day at the Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis

I’m glad I ended up going the second day, I almost didn’t and I think if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have ever gotten on a bike again. The second day went much better than the first with no falls (although some real close calls at some intersections in the city). Maybe one day I’ll do it again, maybe not next year… but some day.

How much (painful) fun! I'm glad you were able to do that together. Hope Sammi feels better soon!

Way to stick with it :) Everyone who has had to learn how to ride with clipless pedals will have similar stories. I can remember the first time that I rode my bike with clipless pedals (up Provo canyon). I managed to ride all the way up the trail and back to the parking lot (by the Chevron) where I forgot to unclip and had a nice slow motion crash right in front of my car. Keri has a fun story with clipless, but I will let her share it :)
