Samantha turns 3

Samantha’s made it to 3!  And what a cute 3 year old she is.  She’s goofy, particular, and just grasping for things to learn.  She’s been learning her letters and can even sight read a dozen or so words.  She can also masterfully navigate around our itouch.  Hopefully she doesn’t learn the itunes password or else she’ll start buying games.

Celebration for Samantha birthday started the night before.  We went to the Children’s Museum after Stephen got home from work.  Saturday morning Samantha helped daddy make waffles for breakfast (she had been asking for waffles all week).

The day was spent with Stephen in the yard and me making Samantha’s cake.  I had been asking Samantha what kind of cake she wanted and she responded “a green cake… with candles to blow”.  I asked her “you don’t want a princess cake?” And immediately it changed to wanting a princess cake.  While in Joann's we were by the cake pans and she saw the ballerina bear and it was all over.  So I spent much of the day with my hand in a cramped position making little stars.   It turned out pretty cute, I think.

That afternoon she got a call from her Great Grandma Cox, and opened her card from her while she was on the phone.  It was one of those singing cards.  It sang “If you’re happy and you know it”, Samantha greatly enjoyed it.

We weren’t planning on having anyone over to sing to Samantha, but Stephen thought the cake looked too good to not let others admire it.  So he called his folks, who brought Samantha’s cousin, Elizabeth over.  The played with Samantha’s kitchen and tea set until dinner was ready (Chicken Dumpling Soup, provided by Stephen’s mother who happened to have made about 10 times too much for the 2 of them).

Samantha is really starting to understand birthdays.  At least she knows the candles, cake and presents thing (which pretty much sums up birthdays).  She was ecstatic to be sung to and to tell everyone that she was 3.

She really enjoyed the cake as well.

After cake was presents.  From us, she got all of her ballet stuff (she was starting ballet the next Monday).  She also got a pettiskirt/tutu thing I made out of nylon chiffon.  I turned 5 1/2 yards into 90 linear yards.  It took forever, but it’s darling.  I even have material to make Clara a matching one (in a different color).  Stephen’s parents gave Samantha a doll that can go in the bath tub.  She came with her own bath toys and towel.  She loves “washing” the baby.  My parents called on Skype and Samantha opened the presents from them while they watched.  My mom got her a bunch of watercolors, markers (washable!) and pad of paper.  (She also got two super cute outfits, but that’s not what kids are interested in).  Samantha loves to color, and has been pretty good about coloring where she’s suppose to.  She did get some on the couch (when her marker went past the paper), but fortunately it came out really easily.

I think Samantha’s very happy to be 3.  The next day she told everyone at church that she was “3 almost 4”.  Kids love to grow up.
