Samantha’s bedroom is still a work in progress. It turned out to be more work than anticipated as I decided to demo more than originally planned. The main reason for this was the closet. We took off the bi-fold closet doors for easy of painting and this is what we found:
Left side of closet frame
Right side of closet frame.
Just so you know… the actual closet is square. The previous homeowners had done something really wacky… including putting in doors 2 1/2 inches too short in a standard height doorway. I don’t know what they were thinking… but we keep finding weird screw-ups short-cuts they did when doing different things. Anyway… so we tore out all the shelving in the closet (which was planned as it wasn’t very well designed), the 2x4 you see above, the side 1x3’s and all the baseboard and quarter round. We will eventually replace the doors with the correct size, as well as pick out some new baseboard.
Friday evening we had a friend watch Samantha so we could paint the ceiling, and prep the walls. We had hoped to prime but that didn’t happen.
On Saturday a couple of our nieces watched Samantha all day long (10-4:30!) and we managed to sand, clean-up, prime and paint the first coat. After a friend’s birthday party that evening, we painted the second coat finishing around 11:30pm. Exhausting day, but I’m so glad we got it done.

Tonight, after about a week of letting the paint sort of settle and not have that “new-paint” smell, we hung the curtain and moved Samantha’s bed into her new room. Despite having pneumonia again and being miserable ALL morning, she was quite excited about her brand new room.
Telling daddy to get off her bed (she’s pushing him)
The curtains are from her old room at my in-laws. My mom made them for her while we were waiting for Samantha to make her appearance. It’s nice to reuse things.
The fabric from a previous post will be used to make a shade (and take out those yucky plastic ones) and a couple pillows… and anything else I feel like making.
We still have a little ways to go (closet needs its shelving, and we need to paint the dresser), but we’re getting there and hopefully it’ll be done for the baby.
For those curious about my inspiration it came from this picture at Pottery Barn.

LOVE IT! When are you coming to do my apartment? :)
Love the color! Can't wait to see what you do with the fabric. You need to help me get some curtains for Turner's room!
It turned out so cute!
