Delaware: The masses begin to arrive

Monday night was the beginning of the mass arrival of people for the wedding.  That evening brought Doug, Caitlyn’s husband, and around midnight Maraina and Danny (bride and groom) got into the airport.  All the new people meant instant massive attention for the girls who just gobbled it up.

Here is Samantha “teaching” Uncle Doug how to play Angry Birds on grandpa’s “big ipod”
(And Samantha actually is quite good.  She beats levels and even gets 3 stars quite often)

Clara’s a messy eater, so she learned how to earn her keep

The evenings were full of great entertainment and teaching Clara and Samantha new tricks.

But this picture proves who was Clara’s favorite.  She even learned how to say “Da-un”

A great joy for all of us Delawareans who no longer live in Delaware is returning to get some Rita’s Water Ice.  It’s an odd name, but also oh-so-perfect.  It’s pretty much the best summertime treat ever.  It’s sort of a cross between a slushie and an italian ice… and really you just have to try it to understand.  Most of our favorite is called a gelati, which is the water ice sandwiched between custard. mmmmm  This was Danny’s first taste of Water Ice.  I think we have a 100% conversion rate of those we introduce Water Ice to.

Samantha opted for an icecream cone and had a hard time figuring out how to use her tongue… it’s a mile long and she’d just use the very tip and get about 1/2 a teaspoon of icecream.  It was incredibly inefficient, and the engineer in me cringed.  Clara, on the other hand, was very efficient in her eating.  She would get tired of eating, throw it on the floor and then once you got her out of her high chair she’d go back and eat what she threw on the floor.  So maybe she wasn’t tired of eating, she was just tired of sitting.
